70 percent of the country’s gas needs are met from South Pars
According to Energy Press, Reza Dehghan stated in a press conference about the plan to increase the pressure of the joint South Pars field, stating that over the past three decades, the extraction of this field began first from Qatar and then from Iran, which resulted in a decrease in pressure over time, which also led to a decrease in production. He stated: “It is expected that we will have a decrease in production in the next 3 to 4 years.” Stating that Qatar and Iran have taken measures to prevent a decrease in production, he said: “Qatar signed a contract with Saipem in 2022, and Iran also entered into a contract with Total in 2016, the conceptual studies of which were conducted by a French consulting company and based on which it presented proposals.”
