The head of the Environmental Protection Agency stated that desirable measures have been taken to reduce pollutants resulting from burning gas in flares in the oil-rich areas of the south, and said: "Achieving the desired result requires further follow-up and appropriate and rational timing."
According to Energy Press, citing the National Southern Oilfields Company, Sheena Ansari said on Monday during a visit to the processing units and the company’s activities in the field of environmental protection: The visit to the oil facilities in Ahvaz was carried out in accordance with upstream laws in the pursuit of environmental measures in industrial sectors. She positively described the measures taken in connection with the burning of flares and the plan to collect gases associated with oil and stated: The results of this visit and the studies carried out will be discussed in the upcoming meeting of the National Working Group for Reducing Air Pollution in the Country on the subject of air pollution in the Ahvaz metropolis. During this visit, Seyyed Mohammad Reza Movalizadeh, Governor of Khuzestan, also said: “What was observed indicates that efforts and measures have been taken by the National Southern Oilfields Company to reduce air pollution, but given the importance of the issue and the ongoing projects, it is expected that this will be accelerated so that we can witness a further reduction in gas flaring and flare burning and clean extraction and production.” Ebrahim Peramon, CEO of the National Southern Oilfields Company, also referred to the company’s environmental measures in the field of collecting and reducing the volume of gas transferred to the flare, and to the documented programs and implementation of numerous projects, and said: “Since the beginning of October this year, timely repairs of various units in the operational scope of the southern oilfields have prevented the burning of about 120 million cubic feet of gas per day.”
