60% of power plant fuel is wasted
According to Energy Press, Mehdi Masali, Secretary of the Iranian Electricity Industry Syndicate, stated at a meeting of the Chamber of Commerce that although many people talk about “energy imbalance”, it is better to say “shortage” of energy instead of “imbalance”. He said: “The crystallization of energy shortage in electricity and gas is the result of an irregular quadrilateral, one of whose vertices is fuel and the other sides of this quadrilateral are money, management and water.” He continued: “The product of the inconsistency of these four items is the electricity shortage in the country. The efficiency of the country’s power plants is about 40 percent in the best conditions; that is, 60 percent of the power plant fuel is wasted. The electricity produced in the power plants must be distributed and transmitted, and in this process we are also faced with energy waste. What reaches the final consumer is 10-12 percent less than the production. That is, most of the fuel in the electricity production cycle is lost. We cannot have good efficiency in the field of energy distribution and transmission with old technology.” He stated: As a result of these conditions, what reaches the final consumer is not in a good condition. Our consumers also do not consume energy efficiently.
Lack of attention to efficient consumption in industries and infrastructure
The secretary of the Iranian Electricity Industry Syndicate, emphasizing the shortage of electricity in industries, stated: Part of this energy shortage is a result of electricity production, distribution, and transmission, and part of it is due to low-tech industries that do not consume energy efficiently.
Issues, referring to household energy consumption, added: Although people in metropolitan cities may have paid attention to energy-efficient equipment, the further we move away from metropolitan cities, the situation changes. The situation in towns and villages is not the same as in metropolitan cities.
The secretary of the Iranian Electricity Industry Syndicate stated: In explaining the energy shortage and consumption, attention should be paid to all other cities in Iran. The consumption pattern of metropolitan cities and villages is not the same, and there is no single solution to this problem.
Masari also mentioned the state of cars and roads and said: “These two areas have a high impact on the state of energy consumption. Lack of attention to optimal consumption in driving, road construction, and buildings causes energy waste. How much attention is paid to insulation, lighting, and energy storage in our buildings? Only one of the factors of energy shortage is people. The quality of fuel and the role of infrastructure are very important.”
