Abadan Refinery Phase 2 Sulfur Solidification Unit Put into Operation
The CEO of Abadan Oil Refining Company announced the operation of the company's Phase 2 sulfur solidification and granulation unit with a capacity of 460 tons.

According to Energy Press, citing Abadan Oil Refining Company, Fardin Rashedi expressed his happiness at the commissioning ceremony of the sulfur solidification and granulation unit, Phase 2, of the Abadan Refinery, which was held in the presence of a group of senior managers of the refinery as the employer and representatives of the National Iranian Oil Engineering and Construction Company. He said: “By delaying the operation of the hydrocracker complex for 3 to 6 days, the complex would have been out of operation, and now, with the operation of the sulfur granulation unit, concerns in this regard have been resolved.” He considered paying attention to environmental components to be one of the advantages of launching this unit, adding: “Due to the proximity of Phase 2 to the city center and the toxicity of sulfur, solidification of this product is an important factor in creating the necessary conditions for environmental protection and is considered an important achievement.” Referring to the necessary preparations for the start of Phase 2 of the project, the CEO of Abadan Oil Refining Company stated: In the coming days, the consortium will officially sign the addendum and the construction process of the second part can be seriously implemented.
Rashedi said: Maximum use of 210 thousand barrels of feed, reducing the loss of underground reserves in Phase 2 of the Abadan Refinery, increasing foreign exchange earnings and helping to preserve the environment are among the important achievements of operating the sulfur solidification and granulation unit of the Abadan Refinery.
The solidification and granulation unit is one of the secondary but important units in the second phase of the Abadan Refinery, which is responsible for converting liquid sulfur produced in Unit 51 of the refinery into solid form and is scheduled to enter into operation with a daily capacity of 460 tons simultaneously with the launch of the hydrocracker complex.
Sulfur separated from various products produced in the capacity stabilization section of this refinery, which is a corrosive fluid with a high percentage of contamination, is converted into sulfur granules with greater capabilities, including portability and use in chemical industries, in the sulfur granulation unit of Phase 2 of the Abadan Refinery, and stored in insulated silos and ready for sale.
