The serious challenge of gas pressure drop in South Pars

The serious challenge of gas pressure drop in South Pars
While forecasts show that the gas pressure drop in South Pars will reach its peak in less than two years, if the pressure boosting plan is implemented in South Pars, it will be 70 years of gas extraction from this field without any problems; A project whose financing is the biggest obstacle to its implementation.

According to Energy Press, concern about winter fuel supply started from the first days of the 14th government; Just when it became clear that none of the promises made by the previous government will be fulfilled, according to the words of the Ministry of Petroleum, a heavy obligation is left, which must be responsible for the gas of the customers in the coming winter, as well as the gas supply of industries and power plants.
Every winter, gas supply is a problem for the Ministry of Oil, like electricity, which is a summer challenge for the Ministry of Energy, with the difference that there are more concerns about gas. The pressure drop in Iran’s largest gas field, which is shared with Qatar, has become worrying.
Forecasts show that the pressure drop will become serious from 1405. This means that if there is no solution to prevent this situation, it will be more difficult to supply gas to the country from the next two years.
In the winter of the previous year, the then Minister of Oil signed a contract, the amount of which was announced at 20 billion dollars, with four companies: Petropars, Avik, Khatam-ul-Anbiya (pbuh) construction site, and Mapna to increase pressure in South Pars; The contract announced based on it, if implemented, will benefit the country by 900 billion dollars.
Javad Oji, the former oil minister, claimed that because there is an 8-year delay in its implementation, and since the slope of this field is towards Qatar, as a result, the gas has moved towards Qatar and the competitor’s harvest has increased day by day. Although the matter was fundamentally correct, one of the reasons for the slowness in the implementation of the increased pressure was the lack of financial resources. The progress and actions taken by these four contractors have not been published.
The South Pars gas field, as the largest common gas field in the world, supplies more than 70% of the country’s gas needs, including 93% of fuel for power plants and industries and 45% of petrochemical feed. If the harvest from this field is reduced, the gas supply of the country will face problems, especially in cold seasons.
Forecasts show that if pressure boosting platforms are set up in this field, which is a four-year plan, gas extraction from South Pars will be without problems for 70 years, and more importantly, extraction from this field will reach 90 trillion cubic feet. But the matter is not as simple as written on paper. As experts say, even though the cost of this project is estimated at 20 billion dollars, there may be other problems, such as the necessary tools that require modern technology, that may hinder the progress of the work. On the other hand, although the four contractors of this contract are considered to be wealthy companies of the country, it is not clear which banks and companies are in charge of financing.
Other ambiguities that exist in relation to this contract have not been correctly determined whether the pressure boosting platforms are completely domestically made or whether the world’s latest technologies are also used. If such a contract has been signed, why are there no details of it?
