60-year-old petrochemical units without renovation will be eliminated from global competition

60-year-old petrochemical units without renovation will be eliminated from global competition
The Vice President of Development and Business of the Persian Gulf Petrochemical Industries Company said: "Continuing the operation of old petrochemical industry units that are 60 years old, without modernization and technological upgrading, will remove them from the cycle of global competition and even profitability."

According to Energy Press, Mahmoud Aminnejad today (Sunday, December 6) at the opening ceremony of the Petrofen 1404 conference, emphasizing that in the new era, innovation and technology should be the main strategy and the center of industrial decision-making, stated: In Iran, due to cruel sanctions, communication with world technology centers has been limited, and this issue highlights the need to pay attention to the development of local technology more than ever before.
According to him, the conferences that are being held today are no longer slogans and have become a strategy and can reduce some of the problems in the field of technology and maintain Iran’s role in the international competitive market.
The need to upgrade old units
Referring to the 60-year history of the Iranian petrochemical industry and the history of units such as Bandar Imam and Razi Petrochemicals, the deputy director of development and business stated: Continuing the activities of old units without modernization and upgrading technology will remove them from the cycle of global competition and even profitability.
Aminnejad considered the high energy consumption in these units as an example of the existing challenges and said: If technological needs are not implemented in a local context, there will be no favorable future for the Persian Gulf Holding and the petrochemical industry. Referring to the country’s significant advances in the field of technology, especially catalysts, he said: There are 89 types of catalysts in the world, 85 of which have been localized in the country. The value of the global catalyst market is $47 billion and Iran’s share is about $285 million, and Iran can transform from a domestic supplier to an international exporter.
