2 vessels carrying smuggled fuel seized in Persian Gulf

According to Energy Press, Hossein Abbasi, head of the Parsian County Judiciary in Hormozgan Province, said: In line with the insistence of the Judiciary and the Chief Justice of Hormozgan on the need to combat fuel smuggling and assist the government in resolving the energy imbalance problem, by order of the judicial authority, after intelligence monitoring and maritime patrol, two vessels carrying smuggled fuel were identified in the waters of the Persian Gulf.
He added: Considering the establishment of a naval base to combat fuel smuggling in the Persian Gulf and by order of the judicial authority, the Navy officers took action to seize these two vessels carrying smuggled fuel after identifying them.
Referring to the arrest of four people in this regard, Abbasi noted: 50,000 liters of smuggled fuel were discovered and seized during the inspection of these vessels.
This judicial official also stated that perpetrators of organized fuel smuggling will be sentenced to confiscation of property resulting from the crime, in addition to fines and imprisonment, and added: “In line with the implementation of Article 20 of the Law on Combating Smuggling of Goods, vessels involved in smuggling will also be confiscated for the benefit of the government.”
